The car, as described by SLJ Hackett
BRISTOL 412 SERIES 1
Zagato Design
Registered in 1977, this Bristol 412 Series 1 represents one of the most distinctive and individual grand tourers of its era. Believed to have spent part of its early life in the Channel Islands, the car was subsequently first registered in the UK on 13 January 1986. It has been in the care of its current owner since 21 July 2010, having been acquired directly from Bristol Cars, Kensington — a reassuring provenance for any Bristol enthusiast.
The car is finished in Warwick Blue, an elegant and understated period colour, complemented by a striking red leather interior. It carries chassis number 412-7803007Z and is registered as TJT 66R.
This example has benefitted from thoughtful mechanical enhancement and diligent specialist maintenance throughout its ownership. Notably, the car is fitted with a high-torque starter motor and a comprehensively overhauled cooling system, incorporating a Bristol-developed twin-fan arrangement designed to improve thermal management in modern driving conditions. A modern Edelbrock carburettor and electronic ignition further enhance reliability and drivability, while remaining sympathetic to the character and intent of the original design.
Maintained and serviced regularly by Bristol specialists, the car has been actively enjoyed rather than stored, undertaking extensive touring in both the UK and mainland Europe. As such, it presents as a particularly usable and rewarding example — a genuine long-distance grand tourer in the truest sense.
The car is supplied with both its Targa roof panel and the original hard-top roof, offering versatility and reinforcing the unique appeal of the Zagato-designed 412.
A rare and highly individual Bristol, combining discreet British engineering with unmistakable Italian design, this is an engaging and characterful example of one of the marque’s most distinctive post-war models.
