SLJ Hackett are delighted to offer this well presented 1957 Bristol 405

The Bristol 405 was the only 4 door car made by the Bristol Aeroplane Company and is remembered for its very distinctive and aerodynamic styling with a single spotlight mounted in front of the grille. Fitted with the 2 litre 100 series Bristol engine and 4 speed gearbox with remote change and overdrive the 405 is perhaps the last of the sporting Bristols and is known for its superb driving characteristics.

This is a late 405 (no 239 of only 265 produced). The car was fitted with disc front brakes in 1961 It is finished in its original colour of Arabian Red with beige leather and maroon carpets. The carpets are new and the original leather has been connolised to improve the appearance whilst preserving the patina.

It had only three owners until 2021 with the second owner keeping the car for seventeen years until 1981 and the recent celebrity owner keeping it for the next forty years. It had a major structural and mechanical restoration at the factory in the 1990s apparently costing £19,000 and taking nine months. Unfortunately this is not documented. It has had relatively little use since and is in very good condition particularly in the important structural areas. Just fitted with 5 new tyres it is scheduled for a service and check through with SLJ later this month.

The car was famously featured on a number of Paul Smith items including holdalls, tote bags, wallets etc. This is a 405 with an interesting history – perhaps the most famous 405 of all!
