This 1975 Bristol 411 Series 4 offers the appeal of a hand-built British grand tourer, with a 6.6-litre V8, automatic transmission and a distinctive bronze-brown finish complemented by a black roof and dark leather upholstery. Registered GLW 935N, it has been in the current owner’s care since January 2005.
The owner reports a current mileage of 115,000, compared with 98,000 when purchased, and annual servicing throughout that ownership. Over this period, attention has been given to the engine, cooling system, interior and numerous practical details.
Engine work included stripping the engine, removing the cylinder heads, cleaning and painting the block, and refitting the heads with new valves and hardened valve seats. The radiator has been replaced, an additional cooling fan fitted and the cooling-system hoses renewed. A higher-rated alternator, replacement silencer boxes, new braking-system hoses and a replacement left-hand wheel bearing are also among the work reported.
Inside, the headlining and all carpets have been replaced. The woodwork was removed, stripped and repolished before being refitted, while the leather seats and door panels have received regular treatment with Connolly Hide Food. A Moto-Lita steering wheel completes the cabin. Both door cards were removed so the mechanisms could be lubricated and the door interiors treated with Waxoyl before reassembly. The front windscreen has also been replaced.
The boot was stripped of its original lining and carpet, the interior painted, and new cloth lining and carpet fitted. The spare-wheel compartment and battery housing have likewise been cleaned and painted. Alloy pepper-pot wheels have replaced the original pressed-steel wheels, and five new tyres were fitted during the owner’s tenure.
The result is a characterful Bristol with a long period of continuous ownership and an extensive account of care and improvement. The work described was carried out at various points since January 2005; the mileage and maintenance history are supplied by the owner.
